The latest pictures revealed of the BMW 4 Series showed that the Convertible will stick with a folding hard top roof. The model was spied with rather minimal disguise, which confirmed that the new model will have a folding metal hard top, which is similar to that of the 3 Series Convertible model that it will be replacing from next year.
The BMW 4 Series models slot in just above the 3 Series Saloon
The BMW 4 Series models slot in the BMW range just above the 3 Series Saloon and the Touring Estates and will feature far more generous standard levels of kit as a result of this. For this reason, 4 Series models will be more expensive than the 3 Series, though a spokesperson for BMW has said that the difference in price between the new 4 Series Coupe and the current 3 Series Coupe will be around a £500 increase, which gives a starting price of £28,000 for the Coupe model and £34,500 convertible.
The BMW 4 Series line up will share engines with the 3 Series range
The cars in the 4 Series line up will share the high powered engines with the 3 Series range and will also include the option of BMW’s xDrive four wheel system from the launch.
The 4 Series Coupe model was revealed at the Weekend and will be officially unveiled at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Though we will have to wait a short while longer for the Convertible to arrive, which is due to debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2014, alongside the new 2 Series Coupe. Both of the models are set to go on sale in the United Kingdom in March 2014.
By splitting its 3 Series line up in two, this means that the M3 Coupe will now be known as the M4, whilst the M3 will continue as a four door saloon model. Both the BMW 4 Series and 3 Series models are due to launch in the United Kingdom at the same time in Summer of 2014.
