Best Road Safety answer for cycling, breaking the law?

Do you think that Cyclists should be able to go through red lights, for road safety? Best cycling road safety to break the law? A recent report in a British newspaper suggested that the best way for a cyclist to stay safe is to break the law sometimes and that they should be able to go through a red light if they feel that it may keep them safe. A keen cyclist recently wrote this piece after they were stopped by police for going through a red light, they actually admitted to doing this regularly whilst they were cycling because they believed that it would improve his own personal safety. In the article they said that they are pretty careful whilst they are cycling, they don’t endanger pedestrians, they said that they do not slow cars down. Sometimes the very best way for a cyclist to be able to stay safe is by going through a red light, they finished by saying that people who cycle regularly will know this. They went on to say there are plenty of people who think that the higher incidence of women cyclist deaths are because they will more than likely follow rules, for example waiting patiently by a stop line when a lorry comes along and crushes them. Most cyclists would like to get as far away from lorries, buses and cars as they possibly could. Based on the UKL1 front wheel drive platform, which will also be underpinning the brand new MINI (which will be debuting in November at the LA Motor Show), the new BMW X1 will not be the actual first front wheel drive BMW. The car will be more practical and a little bigger version of the Peugeot 107, which it will be replacing next year. Under the new naming strategy from the company, the models that end with an 8 have been designed to be a more premium vehicle and looking at the proportions of the prototype, the 108 model is looking to be just that. Though on the spy pictures every panel of the Peugeot 108 has been hidden with extremely heavy camouflage, it is still clear to see the very noticeable changed to the agile City Vehicle. The front rounded end of the car is in keeping with the new image from the company and the styling looks like it is to be a scaled down version of the Peugeot 308 hatchback. The wheels on the Peugeot 108 are  a lot closer to the corners of the vehicle, which indicates that the wheelbase has been extended. This also means that there is likely to be improved space on the interior of the vehicle, with more swifter handling. If you look at the rear of the new model, it has the same sort of boxy stance as the Volkswagen up, though without the squared off windows, thanks to more alluring rising lines on the vehicle....
Pay for parking, with conkers?

Pay for parking, with conkers?

This next bit of information will likely be news to everybody’s ears, well everybody who lives in Manchester and Leeds that is. Have you ever had the dream, where money didn’t matter and you could purchase things with peanuts and candy floss, well this dream has come true, kind of. Would you like to trade in conkers to pay for your parking? It would likely be a comical management meeting at Town Centre Car Parks (TCCP) when this idea was originally brought to light, the idea of actually accepting conkers, yes conkers, instead of cash, for parking your car. Though what has become clear is, whoever did suggest this idea was not actually escorted from the building by the men in white coats. From the 16th of September until the 22nd of September, TCCP’s car parks in Manchester and Leeds are taking payment for parking, in conkers. For one week only, you can put the pointless conker collecting activity to good use, encourage your children and relatives, we all know how much they love to collect conkers and rather than having a useless pile of them in your home, pay for your parking with them. Yes, it is absolutely insane and brilliant all at the same time. The exchange rate for the system is actually rather generous aswell, each conker has the value of 20p and drivers are able to use anything up to 50 of them, worth £10, to settle their bill. The conkers used must be completely intact, with no holes drilled in them, as they will be rejected. TCCP has promised that after this campaign funds...

Learner drivers can pay less for their insurance

Learner drivers can pay less for their insurance

A new idea has been brought to light recently, a points means prizes approach to learner drivers whilst doing their lessons. Though, I think it is safe to say that points are not usually something that drivers would want to collect whilst they were out on the roads. Ingenie, the Insurance provider along with Red Driving School is providing insurance cover that will encourage and directly award better drivers. Under this scheme, the insurance company is offering a discount of 5% to all new drivers who have had 10 or over hours of Red driving school tuition. For the average 17 year old driver, this saving could be around £100 Ingenie claim that for an average customer of 17 years old, this will represent a saving of about £100, on their annual insurance premium. Which could easily be enough for the annual road tax or a couple of tanks of fuel. As part of the insurance, there is a black box fitted to the vehicle, which will collect data on how the vehicle is being driven. The data is not only available to Ingenie, it is also accessible to the driver of the vehicle, who is able to monitor their own driving performance on a website or via a mobile app. The assessment of driving is based on braking and acceleration, cornering and speed and is reviewed quarterly. The discount could actually be raised to 10% for the best drivers As another incentive to encourage better driving, this discount could actually be raised to 10% for those that are driving the best. Anything that is rewarding skilful young drivers...
