British Tour De France winner and Olympic Gold medalist Bradley Wiggins was involved in a collision with a White Vauxhall Astra whilst cycling near his home on Thursday evening. With the woman driving the vehicle, a mechanic, stating “Of all the people to hit, bloody Bradley Wiggins. Everyone will hate me.” His head coach Shane Sutton was also knocked off his own bike by a 61 Year old Man in a Peugeot 206 the following day. Although Sutton is being kept in hospital for a few days with bruising and apparent bleeding on the brain and Wiggins has a broken rib and dislocated finger, both are said to be in a stable condition and fans and friends wish them a speedy recovery. This unfortunately is not always the case when it comes to road traffic accidents, as a lot end in fatalities, horrific injuries or vehicles and property being damaged or written off.
Bradley, who is the only Brit to ever win the Tour de France, a jack the lad, self confessed Retro Mod, Fred Perry Model and reluctant hero seems to be made of stone, from coming through a tough childhood and “drinking days” it seems as though nothing can stop him, he even has had sausages created in his honour. If a professional can be knocked off their bike, think of how easy it is for everybody else to be involved in an accident. This is exactly the example needed to shake people up into paying attention. Accidents can happen to anyone and it’s about time people realised it.
