A Bentley SUV has been confirmed

A Bentley SUV has been confirmed that will be built at the company’s United Kingdom Crewe Factory, which is due to go on sale in 2016.

This model will go on sale in 2016, though between now and then  Bentley will be investing over £800 million into it’s Headquarters in Crewe and in the development of new models for the company. Over 1,000 jobs in the United Kingdom will be created due to this investment, aswell.

Chairman of the Board of Volkswagen Group, Dr Martin Winterkorn has said that the Volkswagen Group believe in the United Kingdom as a competitive location for industrial production. Fans of Bentley over the world are looking forward to the first SUV from the brand. He went on to say that together we will create this new Bentley another true Bentley model, exclusive, successful and powerful.

An SUV was previewed by Bentley at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, with it’s EXP 9 F concept though the company has since hinted that the design will be changed based on feedback they have gained from customers.

A sketch of the Bentley SUV was released along with the announcement

There was a sketch released by Bentley along with this announcement which reveals a similar profile to the original concept that was features, though the controversial front end of the 9 F is expected to be toned down a little.

Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, who is the CEO of Bentley recently said that the company has received 2,000 pre orders without customers having an idea about price of styling of the model. Since the concept was first shown, the company has worked extremely hard on the interior and the exterior and the car is finally ready for development. He finished by saying the car now looks a lot more like a Bentley, along with being more modern.

The plan for the company is to sell between 3,000 and 4,000 Bentley SUV’s every year, making the new model a crucial part of the company plan to sell 15,000 per year by 2018, that is compared to 8,510 that were sold last year. Wolfgang Schreiber also unveiled that there will be a small overlap with Range Rover with regards to price of the Bentleu SUV, which suggests that it will cost just over £100,000.
